General Care Instructions

For the felt or knitted items

² Cleaning
Use tools such as a lint roller/ soft brush/ vacuum cleaner with appropriate attachments to remove dust on the felt surface. If there’s a minor stain, use cotton swaps or tissue to dab alcohol onto the stained area, and then wipe clean with a piece of wet cloth.

In the case of heavy stains, immerse the felt in cold water and wash gently by hand with soap.

² Drying
Gently wring out the water by hand and then spin-dry it. Lay the felt on a flat surface in the shade. Do not dry it under direct sunlight for too long or use a tumble dryer.

If the felt products being dried has a specific form, shape it into its original (or intended) form when it is still wet.

² Ironing
When ironing is needed, set the temperature on the wool setting, then put a cotton bath towel on the surface when ironing. Do not leave the iron in one spot for more than a few seconds or the fibers might be damaged.

² Dealing with pilling
Natural animal fiber will pill. In such cases, use a clipper or a pair of scissors to remove the pills, the pills will gradually disappeared when the felt is more settled. It is not recommended to pull it off by hand, since it will usually pull more fibers to the surface and will likely cause more pills in the future.

² Long-term storage
Felt is animal fibers and is susceptible to damage by insects/household pests, especially when more grease and dirt is adhered to felt. Therefore felts should be cleaned and placed in light-weight and breathable bags before long term storage.

Insect repellants (e.g. mothball) do help deter bugs, but should not directly touch the fibers. Such chemical compounds can damage felts.

If the items to be stored have specific shape, attentions need to be paid so the shape is not compromised during the storage period.

For the leather

Our Product is made from dye free vegetable tanned leather, which means over time, sunlight will darken the light skin color into a deep tan tone and the texture would also be soften after frequent use and obtain a lovely aging look.

The natural leather parts are not treated, therefore it is sensitive to water and all kinds of stains. To protect the leather from stains, you can apply a thin layer of leather care oil/ wax/ conditioner. The application also helps to prevent the leather from getting too dry when not in use or stored for too long. Be mindful that such application can make the color of the leather darker.

Specific Product Care Instructions

For felt hats

² Washing (warning: reshaping is needed afterward)
In the case of heavy stains, immerse the hat in cold water and wash gently by hand with soap. Squeeze the water out by hand and then spin-dry. Shape the hat into its original form when it is still wet.

² Placing
Improper ways of placing (e.g. in a folded position) result in deformation of the hat. Placing the hat on an appropriate-shaped support like a hat rack/stand or a flat surface is recommended.

² Encountering rain
Felt has water-repellent quality. It can repel water in light showers but will not hold up in heavy rains. So try to avoid wearing a felt hat when the rain is heavier than a drizzle.

² Reshaping
Wool felt is like a soft sculpture and has memory quality. You can form the felt into a desired shape when wet, and it will retain such a shape after it becomes dry.

If you want to instantly adjust the shape of the hat, you could put the kettle on or use a steam iron and put the hat over hot steam to soften the felt. You then shape the softened felt by hand until you achieve a desired result and let it dry. You will be surprised how just a tea kettle can help shape your hat!

However, felt hat can get floppier over time. Besides reshaping your hat with steam, if you hope the shape to remain longer, you may also spray cloth stiffener inside the top of the hat and under the brim of the hat.

For felt scarves

² Removing wrinkles
To deal with slight wrinkles, you can use the steam from a kettle or use a garment steamer and run the scarf over hot steam. That will smooth the wrinkles. In the case of severe wrinkles, apply steam (or you may just use a mist sprayer) on the scarf and set the iron on the wool setting, then put a cotton bath towel over the scarf when ironing. Do not leave the iron in one spot for more than a few seconds or the fibers might be damaged.

When finished, leave the scarf on a hanger or a flat surface to dry completely before wearing. This will help prevent deep wrinkles from forming if you wear it damp.

² Washing
If washing is needed, immerse the scarf in cool water and wash gently by hand. Gently wring out the water by hand and then spin-dry. After washing there would be plenty of wrinkles, so follow the above instruction if wrinkles are not favored.
