This yarn brings together the crispness of linen and the soft luster of silk.
The 70% linen gives it a cool, airy feel and the beautiful drape that linen is known for, while 30% silk adds softness, a smooth texture, and a gentle sheen while preserving linen's characteristic structure. The resulting fabric is breathable and especially well suited for spring and summer garments, shawls, and accessories.
Linen and silk also create a dye effect that is quite different from wool. Since our dyes bond mainly with animal fibers, the silk takes up color while the linen stays undyed and keeps its natural color.
If you look closely, you'll notice the pale linen fibers running alongside the dyed silk, creating delicate layers of color and texture—almost like colored pencil strokes on paper. Rather than dyeing perfectly evenly, the blend develops a softer, more organic look.
In darker colorways, the contrast becomes even more noticeable, creating a striking marled effect throughout the yarn. It's one of the things we love most about this blend—the same colorway can look surprisingly different here than it does on our other bases.
(That's also why we've added (oh) after the color names in this series: even when a colorway shares the same name as one of our other bases, it never looks quite the same here.)
* It takes around two weeks to complete our hand-dyed yarn. If in stock, your order will be shipped promptly. If your order contains dyed-to-order yarns, the full order will ship once those yarns are ready.
* Our hand-dyed yarn is twisted into a hank and needs to be wound into a ball or cake before use.
