Ghicha silk is actually a type of Tussar silk, but it comes from the shorter fibers left behind after the long, continuous filaments have been extracted. Some say that Ghicha silk is made only after the moth has naturally emerged from the cocoon, rather than being harvested while the moth is still inside. This makes it a more moth-friendly fiber. However, since the moth breaks open the cocoon to emerge, the resulting fibers are shorter and less lustrous. Its wool-like, fine crimped texture gives it a unique feel, and when woven or knitted, it creates a fabric with a distinctive appeal.
