Around the world, beyond the domesticated silkworm, many species of moths also spin silk. In the wild forests of Assam in northeastern India, many large silk moths of the Antheraea genus spin enchanting threads in golden and honey-colored hues. These moths are quite large, with wingspans often exceeding ten centimeters, and their most distinctive feature is the striking, eye-like circular patterns on their wings.
This tricolor Tussar wild silk yarn is a blend of silk spun by several species of Antheraea moths, resulting in a natural variation of earthy tones. These wild silk moths inhabit the forests of Assam and include species such as A. assamensis, A. paphia, A. pernyi, A. roylei, and A. yamamai. As this yarn is machine-spun, it retains a soft and lofty texture. When used as a companion yarn, it won’t compromise the overall softness of the fabric.
